Our Mission

Simplifying money decisions for every Irish household.

Let’s face it, making financial decisions in Ireland is a nightmare. Nobody teaches you how to do it. When you go to look for the information, it’s overcomplicated and filled with jargon. The products themselves? Wrapped with terms and conditions just waiting to catch you out.

It’s no surprise that Irish households have €142 billion in cash gathering dust in Irish bank accounts. It’s just easier to do nothing. But this is costing regular people billions of euros each year – and nobody is doing anything about it.

Enough is enough. Honest is here to explain it all in a language that you can understand.

How We Got Here

Our Journey

Hi, I’m Dan Malone

I’ve always believed that high quality financial information should be shared, not just reserved for the ultra-wealthy. In 2021, I quit my job with one of the leading financial services firms in the world to share my knowledge about personal finance with those who need it most.

After creating thousands of hours of free educational videos, I realised I needed to do more. I needed to reach more people, with better information, better tools and clearer next steps. That’s why I started Honest.

Is This For You

Why We’re Here

Traditional education has left millions of Irish people completely unprepared financially. Money is still a taboo topic. This makes it hard to find the information you need.

To make matters worse, most financial information online is tailored for the UK or the US. This can lead to confusion and frustration when searching for information that’s relevant to Ireland. If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed, don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Honest provides you with everything you need to start taking control of your finances, from a uniquely Irish perspective. Your time is valuable, and we’re not here to waste it. Any time we cover a topic, we’ll leave no stone unturned – if you’re left with more questions than answers, we haven’t done our job.

Transparency

How We Make Money

Honest is, and always will be, free to use. We’re here to save you money, not take it from you. But we’re not hiding how we keep the lights on either:

We receive a referral fee when you use our site to sign up to one of our partner’s products. Don’t worry, this will never affect our impartiality, which is not for sale.

We believe this model creates a win-win-win situation:

You: get the educational guides and tools plus information about the best financial products at no cost.

Our Partners: get to have their products expertly reviewed and put in front of their target audience.

Honest: earns revenue in a way that’s directly linked to value provided to you.

Why are we telling you this? We want to live up to our name. We believe that honesty is the best policy, especially when it comes to your money.

With Honest, there are no hidden fees, sneaky terms and conditions or ulterior motives. We lay it all out on the table, because we can stand by everything we do and how we do it.

We know you might have a bunch of questions, so we’ve preempted some of them below in order to be as transparent as possible. But first, we need to tell you about our promise.

Our Commitment

The Honest Promise

We encourage you to call us out if we’ve missed the mark. Do your own research and see if you can arrive at a different conclusion than us. If you do, and it’s clear that we’ve made a mistake, we’ll guarantee to update our information to reflect it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely, that is how we remain independent and objective. The products that are best for the consumer at the time that a guide is written are the products that will come out on top. That is our guarantee.

If we can, we will always try to get a partnership with any providers we cover, because it helps us to keep running, but we will never not cover a product just because we don’t stand to earn anything from it.

The products that we recommend and the partners that we seek to work with are one and the same. Anytime a guide is written, we carry out an independent review of all products available to our users. The companies who, in our opinion, are offering the best products are the companies that we aim to partner with. That means that we will never partner with a company if we don’t believe their products add real value to the lives of our users.

Yes, we only partner with regulated financial institutions. This means that all of our partners have undergone a rigorous authorization process in order to be able to offer financial products in the first place and continue to be scrutinized to the highest of standards by regulators on an ongoing basis.

No, our partners cannot tell us what to write in our guides or ask us to change what we’ve already written, unless there is a legal requirement to do so. Honest is an independent and objective publisher. This means that all of our opinions are, and always will be, our own.

Yes, as our partners are regulated financial institutions this means that, on occasion, we may be required to include language in our guides that is mandatory for our partners under law. This serves as an extra layer of transparency and protection for you.

Examples may include “when investing, your capital is at risk” or “past performance doesn’t guarantee future results” among others.

Yes, sometimes our partners may provide us with supplementary information about their products such as a product brochure or information document. This is to ensure that we have all of the facts on hand when creating our guides.

No, a partner cannot pay Honest for a positive review. Our integrity is not for sale.

No, a partner cannot pay Honest for a better product rating. Our integrity is not for sale.
